PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Twin Cities

Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization. Uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with families, friends, and allies, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and full societal affirmation of LGBTQ people through its threefold mission of support, education, and advocacy.

PFLAG has over 400 chapters and 200,000 members and supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states.

GLAD Transgender Media Program

GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBT acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.

Reclaim

RECLAIM works to increase access to mental health support so that queer and trans youth may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms.  We offer therapy for youth and families, training for practitioners, and community partnerships for social change at the intersection of gender and racial justice.

 

Gay-Lesbian Community Services of Southeast Minnesota

Mission:

Gay Lesbian Community Services provides GLBTA related educational, informational, and social resources to the region of SE Minnesota.

About GLCS:

GLCS is a volunteer service organization. We provide educational, informational, and social resources to the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender communities, their families, friends, and any interested persons or allies. In addition, we work closely with area GLBTA related groups, human and social service agencies, educational institutions, churches and other organizations so that we may easily connect you with the group or organization that specialize in the area(s) of particular interest to you.

GLCS has a rich history of community service in Southeastern Minnesota. Since 1980, people have been able to contact GLCS and obtain information about a large variety of topics relating to the LGBT community. The services provided by GLCS are done in a confidential and respectful manner.

Services:

  • Educational and social events

  • A lending library of fiction and non-fiction materials

  • Outreach and speaking engagements for local groups and organizations

  • Educational, informational, support related materials, and guidance

  • Coming out resources as well as referrals to GLBTA counceling and area clergy

  • An extensive list of area professionals (clergy, lawyers, doctors, etc.) who understand the GLBTA community

  • A significant network of GLBTA oriented organizations in the region.

Rainbow Health Initiative

Rainbow Health Initiative is a community-based non-profit organization committed to advancing the health and wellness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities through research, education and advocacy.

RHI was founded in 2001 by a group of community activists, health care providers, and health advocates who noted the significant health disparities facing members of Minnesota’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and determined to do something about it.
